About Us

October 9, 1969. The day the rouge river was set ablaze. At this time metro Detroit was a perfect example of the damages that pollution and chemicals have to our environment. For years pollution and chemicals were ignored and used in every day items. We breathed, ate, and drank many things that we later found out to be damaging and even cancerous. If a body of water could be set on fire due to toxic chemicals then what other parts of our lives were being effected? Heather, the founder of Odyssoy Candle Co., grew up in an environment that has been on a long and winding odyssey. Metro Detroit has seen industrial wastelands restored to nature preserves and parks. Wyandotte chemicals razed to make way for a golf course. The Detroit River international wildlife refuge, created on the site of many former industrial sites and dumping grounds. With the area around her changing and the population becoming more conscious of what they bring into their homes, attention was brought to the toxic ingredients found in most candles. Heather's goal with Odyssoy Candle Co. was to produce candles that she could feel comfortable burning in her home, while minimizing as much waste as possible. Our candles are made with 100% soy wax made from U.S. grown soy beans, cotton wicks threaded with thin paper to provide structure, and fragrance oils not containing phthalates or ingredients found on the proposition 65 list. Every candle is hand poured in Brownstown, Michigan and all of our supplies, with the exception of some of the fragrance oils, are locally sourced! The vast majority of our scents are personalized blends, so please allow for small inconsistencies. Our jars can be cleaned out and repurposed, but if you cannot find another use for your jar and are local to the area, we happily accept them for a small discount on your next purchase!
